Experience Chicago's lesser known side, Lake Michigan. Our passion is fishing for trophy Salmon and Trout out of downtown Chicago!
This monster King Salmon is hopefully one of many to come over the next few weeks out of downtown Chicago.
The ports to the north of Chicago and into Wisconsin have been struggling lately to find good numbers of fish. That’s because all of the fish are in the Chicago waters right now feeding on the massive amount of bait that is around. We are getting spoiled. Fishing should remain spectacular through the end of August! We have limited weekends open and a few weekday spots open the next 2 weeks. Call, text, or go ahead and book online to get your fishing charter scheduled! Here are some more fish pics from this past week!
Fishing just keeps getting better. I was worried the fish would scatter after yesterday’s strong winds and waves, but it actually made it even better! The coho salmon are stacked off downtown Chicago! Give us a call to book your trip. No one else works harder or goes the extra mile in Chicago than we do! Our passion is making sure everyone has fun!
The past 4 days have been some of the best salmon fishing out of Chicago in the past 6 years! Don’t miss out. We have July 4 open and a couple other dates this week! Fill your freezers with fresh salmon!
we found a ton of fish this afternoon! Lake Michigan really cooperated nicely today. We’ve got a few charter slots open next week. Give us a call and fill up your freezer with fresh Salmon!
We’ve had consistent fishing over the past few days. Good reports of 10 to 20 fish per trip caught. The fish are putting on weight quick! July should be amazing fishing!
Fishing has been very consistent the past weekend. It was really foggy, but the fish didn’t mind. With the warmer weather forecasted this weekend, the fishing should only get better!
Fishing was on fire this morning. We got our 4 man limit of trout and Salmon on a 6 Hour trip. We’ve got Friday and Sunday morning open this week. Give us a call!
The Salmon and Trout are already moving into summer patterns on Lake Michigan. We’ve been staying on top of the fish the last 10 days. As long as the weather holds, the fishing the next couple weeks should remain hot! We’ve got a few openings the next 2 weeks. Give us a call!
The coho are starting to show up in big numbers. Last week was tough and slow fishing, but by Monday the fish moved into the Chicago area and are very active! The next few weeks should provide some amazing fishing if the weather stays stable. Fingers crossed!
Unfortunately the 25 foot Pursuit is no longer a part of the fleet. We had some unforeseen damage to the boat over the winter. I will be running our 2018 charters on the bigger boat in 31st street Harbor this summer. I look forward to fishing with everyone again this year. The fish are already getting big!
It's been a long winter! The boat goes in the water Sunday. Here is a little teaser video from an awesome fishing trip last year!
Every year the Illinois DNR allows anglers one weekend to fish for free! June 15th-18th no fishing license is needed. We have a few openings that weekend. Check it out. This could save you anywhere from $48-$102 total per group! This also happens to be Fathers Day weekend- what a great idea for all the hard working dads out there!
We are counting down the days till Chicago let’s us back in the harbors. April brings world class lake trout and brown trout fishing only a couple miles off the downtown skyline. Call us to get in on the action!
We hope every has a wonderful holiday season. Only 90 days until the boats go back in the water! We are running a Spring fishing special. $75 off the 25 foot boat for April fishing charters. Stay warm. See you on the water soon!
While our main passion is fishing, we still enjoy going for cruises downtown to see the Chicago River, fireworks, concerts at Northerly Island, and just relaxing in the playpen. Unlike most charter boats in Illinois, we leave directly out of downtown Chicago. No need to drive 1-2 hours to get to great fishing! Check out our charter packages. From families to the corporate business trip, we are confident we have a package for everyone.
Capt. Brian is a fully licensed and insured USCG captain. What began in small ponds in Indiana, led to a passion of fishing mountain streams out west, boundary waters up north, and the great lakes in our own back yard. He is dedicated to putting his friends and guests of Why Knot on big fish. His goal is to create a memory that lasts a lifetime for his guests.

For 2018 we will be running our trips on a 35 foot Sea Ray Weekender. It is rigged to be a salmon fishing machine, can accommodate up to 6 guests, and has a full enclosed head and cabin. Our 25 foot boat is no longer a part of the fleet as it was damaged over the past winter.
